19 is a translation of a letter, written

on British Embassy notepaper, to David Kung. In it

he submitted the views of the British Ambassador on

Britain's Far East Policy in the event of an

European war (referring to September 1958).

He

mentioned that the Ambassador had confidence in him

and that if he (Bavid Kung) required anything from

馬鱆良

him (KI LIG) he would deem it a great pleasure,

not only for friendship but also as a duty to the

country (China).

He ended by saying that in order to

work conveniently in Shanghai he had abondoned his

name of TO: NAP.

20 is a coded message from MA KI LEUNG

dated 8.10.38 and it appears he has been given

instructions to photostat Embassy documents, but he

is not quite sure, and asks for further details.

21 is dated 17.10.38 and was also in

secret code to David Kung. He says that the British

38 Ambassador will proceed to Hong Kong on 18.10.39 per s.s. Empress of Russia and that he (MA) will accompany

him. It is mentioned that the Ambassador had received

instructions from London to proceed to Hankow and

make enquiries about the Chinese Government's view

towards peace. MA said he would report the rest to

David personally.
